Equithon is a social innovation hackathon that provides the tools for hackers to create solutions to social equality issues. We strive to provide valuable experiences to hackers with a range of skills and backgrounds.

Hacking begins at 10pm on Friday, May 4, 2018, and concludes at 11am on Sunday, May 6, 2018. Judging will then take place starting at 12pm.

Eligibility

All students of any gender, from any academic field, from any school can participate at Equithon.

To be eligible for Equithon 2018, students must apply and be accepted.

Requirements

Teams may enter their submissions for only one category.

Submissions must address an equity issue in one of five Equithon 2018 categories:

  1. Access to Education
  2. LGBTQ+ Rights
  3. Mental Health
  4. Physical Disabilities
  5. Women Empowerment

$2,000 in prizes

Access to Education Prize

One team will be announced as the winner of the Access to Education category. Each member of the team will have a choice of prize: Google Home Mini or Fit Bit Flex 2.

LGBTQ+ Rights Prize

One team will be announced as the winner of the LGBTQ+ Rights category. Each member of the team will have a choice of prize: Google Home Mini or Fit Bit Flex 2.

Mental Health Prize

One team will be announced as the winner of the Mental Health category. Each member of the team will have a choice of prize: Google Home Mini or Fit Bit Flex 2.

Physical Disabilities Prize

One team will be announced as the winner of the Physical Disabilities category. Each member of the team will have a choice of prize: Google Home Mini or Fit Bit Flex 2.

Women Empowerment Prize

One team will be announced as the winner of the Women Empowerment category. Each member of the team will have a choice of prize: Google Home Mini or Fit Bit Flex 2.

Equithon 2018 Grand Prize

In addition to the category prize, one team will win the overall Equithon 2018 prize after pitching their hack at the Closing Ceremonies.

How to enter

All hackers who were accepted to Equithon 2018 and registered at the event may enter a submission.

  1. Click “Register” to access the submission form and start your draft.
  2. Create a working demo or prototype of a website, application, etc. that addresses an equity issue in one of the five categories.
  3. Take some screenshots and add a description to your submission.
  4. Submit!
